What is a
Ground Source Heat Pump?
Geothermal Heat Pump?
Geoexchange System?

All Different terms for the same equipment. These systems utilize the relatively constant underground temperature to provide heat, cool and hot water for your home. When we use the term Geothermal, don't be confused and think we are drilling down to where we can find molten rock and produce steam.

Our systems are relatively simple. We either install a closed or open loop system.

A closed loop, is just that, we bury a length of polyethylene piping either in vertical wells (bore holes), horizontal trenches or coils sunken to the bottom of a body of water. From there we install a pump to circulate water through your underground loop to your water source heat pump (WSHP) where hot or cold air is produced and then circulated throughout your home. We here at Bowman Mechanical Services have been installing these throughout the Triangle for over 23 years, so we know the makeup of the sub surface terain and can design the loops and systems to provide the most efficient and comfortable heating and cooling systems for your home.

On an open loop, we utilize a well to provide water to the WSHP. The water is then reinjected into the same well at a different level, reinjected into another well or discharged on the surface.

Closed loop system: Once the loop is installed, we extend the lines into your basement, mechanical room or crawl space. Our team then fabricates and installs an appropriate pumping package, fills loop with fluid, purges all air out of system and hydrostatically tests loop for any water leaks.

Once above work is complete, we can remove your existing system, hopefully still limping along, and install your new Geothermal Heat Pump. This process ensures that you are not without heat or cool for the least amount of time. Usually this final change out will be completed within one day.

Additional accessories:

Our geothermal systems include one desuperheater with a hot water storage tank. This option removes excess heat from you system and preheats your domestic hot water for additional savings.

Filtration: Most equipment comes with filter cases built in. You can utilize that filter, your existing filters at return grills, or we offer great whole house filters we can install into your system. Check out these at our clean air tab.

Humidification: We can install whole house humidifiers from Honeywell.

Dehumidification: With today's high performance air conditioners and heat pumps, dehumidification is much better that older systems. But if you are interested in the ultimate home comfort, check out the ClimaDry feature from ClimateMaster. If this is something you are interested in, the system needs to be ordered with that option, it is not an add on accessory.

Dedicated hot water heater: Geostar makes a great heat pump that will also generate all your domestic hot water needs at incredible savings.

There is probably no better time than now to invest in, improve the value of your home and significantly reduce your carbon footprint by installing your Geothermal heat pump. Contact us here at Bowman Mechanical Services so we can come out, survey your home and get you saving serious $$$ today.
